I thought this place was wonderful! By far, the best of the four places we stayed while on our two week vacation. We had a 6th floor room with a private lanai and a partial ocean view. The staff was professional and friendly. The prices in the restaurants were high, but to be expected for a luxury resort. I was pleased with my four day stay at Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel.
This is a great hotel for a specific clientele. If you are looking to be in the heart of the action, with activites galore, you should clearly stay at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. This a quiet resort with understated elegance. The hotel itself is a little farther up from the beach than a typical Hawaii resort. However, nice views are easily found. The beach here and at the sister hotel, Mauna Kea, are excellent. The resort just feels emptier than others in the Kohala Coast area; this makes it feel more like a retreat, though, as a result. The rooms are nice, but the bathroom is particularly nice. You may have a hearty trek to reach your room, though, a product of the hotel's linear design. The Hapuna golf course was nearly empty when we played it on a gorgeous day, and Mauna Kea golf course is far busier, but very nice for a resort type layout.
I generally agree with the previous reviews. It is a very nice place. Good, but not great. Why do I say that? Rooms are nice sized (we had a suite in bldg 3 on the water) but have a very cool feeling decor -- not a cozy or warm feeling. The whole hotel is a bit cool that way.Food was good but not great. Service friendly but you are a number with most (exception: the bellmen)Major complaint: fitness center way out of date and crowded late in the day. Strength training equipment rusty and not maintained. Should be much better for the rates.Major compliments: The beach is fantastic. Great golf courses.
