No doubt, it's a bit dated (we stayed in the Tapa Tower), but this has gotta be the best location and site plan on the beach. I used the city buses to go shopping when my husband and son were out viewing the ships at Pearl Harbor. Really easy! Bus drivers and local people are very helpful at which bus goes where. We enjoyed every aspect of the HHV, and service was great! The grounds have some surprising guests-- Egyptian ibis, black and white swans, flamingos, wood ducks, and penguins! You can easily find a quiet spot to read a book or enjoy a drink. No stress here.
We really lucked into the best deal! We had reserved 2 rooms, one for my husband and I and one for 3 children, 17, 15, and 11 for February break 2004. They were booked solid and could not even find 2 rooms in the same tower when we checked in. After a quite a wait, we were so tired after the long trip from Michigan, we were given 2 rooms on the same floor in the Alii tower. What a great room up grade! On the second floor, 4 steps from the private pool for Alii guests. We had a huge balcony, which had two reading chairs with ottamans, a table with 4 chairs and 2 patio recliners, over looking all the activities at the main pool and over the ocean. We saved so much money on the food served from 5-7 at the Alii pool and we did not have to pay for coffee. The kids were as far as they could be on the same floor but they are older so we were fine. Our balcony became our gathering spot for sun worshiping, book reading and card playing!
Our stay here at the Hawaiian Village (Feb. 18-21) was a lot of fun. There is so much to do in the "village" itself that you never really need to step off. The kids enjoyed the penguins and flamingos and found the location on the beach perfect. The only major negative thing, which was major, was that the pool closed up way too early for a resort. Some days it closed up as early as 3:30. Otherwise, I would recommend the Hilton if you are looking for an exciting stay in Honolulu.
