"Very nice gardens"

We vacationed at the Renaissance in February, 2004. It is a nice hotel, with an elegant lobby and the gardens are beautiful and immaculately kept. The valets were very nice. The pool was very small, clover shaped, 5 strokes and you are across it. The beach in front of the hotel seemed better for snorkeling than swimming. It had rock formations and was a little dirty. The beach also wasn?t very wide to be able to set up very many beach chairs. The hotel reminded me of the Princeville on Kauai, on a smaller scale. It was a little snobby, like the Wailea area, I found it somewhat difficult to relax there. It seemed like the hotel could have been located anywhere, it didn?t seem Hawaiian with the ?aloha? feel. We watched the Luau. It was nice but I would recommend the Old Lahaina Luau about 40 minutes away; its outstanding. We reserved a garden view room for a $190 rate using our Entertainment Card. The first room we were shown had a very noisy air conditioning system outside of it. It was loud in the room, much less on the balcony. They moved us to the other wing and it was much better; we looked at some gardens and the parking lot. We had stayed at the Sheraton on Kaanapali Beach for 3 nights before moving to this hotel. We loved the Lahaina area and the Sheraton. In Wailea, I recommend trying Joe?s. Its about $20-35 a plate but they had the best seafood we found, especially the Ahi appetizer. This hotel was very nice but I will probably stay somewhere else next time I?m in Maui, closer to Lahiana.

"wonderful!"

A wonderful hotel.. we had a great stay!! Stayed in the Makena wing, with a view of the gardens.. and a slight view of the ocean. Our room had plantation style shutters to close off the wall of glass facing the lanai.. nice touch!! Bed was clean and comfortable, as was the bathroom. We were on the 4th floor, one floor above the restaurant, and we could watch people dining from our lanai (not that we did, of course!).Only downfall to the stay was hearing 2 dishes break at 5:30 am as they were setting up for breakfast.. but I can deal with that amidst the chirping birds (no roosters here!!). Pool is small but just fine for a short dip.. wasn't crowded despite the hotel being at near full capacity (mid feb. trip).Beachfront is small, but beautiful all the same.. great view, even saw whales from both the beach and from the pool area, which is higher ground than the beach.. what a show!Ate at the Maui Onion - those onion rings are to die for!! Everything else we had there was excellent too - just a little pricey, as is everything in Maui.Valet parking costs same as self parking (other than the tip you normally give a valet). Nice touch, as sometimes we didn't want to walk with all our packages and bags. :)The luau here was wonderful - good food, decent drinks.. a bit pricey, but wonderful all the same. The dancers were excellent, and they have an excellent setup for it (luaus are on sunday, tuesday and friday(?)). We went on a tuesday.. most excellent!Enjoy!

"stay here if you want to go to Maui"

This hotel is the best on Maui. Everything was wonderful and the luau they have is awesome. I recommend that you go to it. The grounds are very pretty and access to the beach is good. Our room was great. Next time we come were are staying here.
