"Completely relaxing!"

My families stay here at the Ritz Carlton (Feb. 11-18) was simply serene. We have stayed at many fine resorts in our travels and found this one just as nice or better. I was a bit scared of how the rooms were going to be after reading the other reviews but found our room was clean, large and there was no sign of mildew smells anywhere (I have allergies and a sensitive nose). The area was beautiful and not congested or touristy as the more southern areas on the island. I liked that the large pools were always available at any time of the day and found the staff pleasant and helpful especially Jinny at the concierge's desk. The down side is that you do need to have a car because of the location but who wouldn't anyways there is way to much to see on island to veg just at the resort and the weather can be cloudier and windier. Also it would be nice if they had a place on the premises that could provide a quick snack on the go (sandwiches, ice cream) without having to go through a waiter or restaurant. So for all those negative reviews that I have read, where were you staying? It certainly wasn't the resort that I was at.

"The second time's the charm!!"

I should start off by saying that my husband and I stayed at this hotel 5 years ago and were not impressed. When I told the hotel of our problems they invited us back for three nights. We actually stayed for eight nights and this time was completely different. We really enjoyed this hotel. The staff was very friendly, accomodating and definitely demonstrated the feeling of "aloha". As far as rooms go it is a long walk-especially if you have a deluxe ocean view or ocean front, my husband thought he smelled mildew occasionally (I never did) from the air conditioning. The room itself was fine. They have pickled bamboo furniture in an effort to look tropical, but it does look a bit dated. The bathrooms were very nice-we even had two showers in our bathroom. The hotel is set away from the beach (due to an ancient Hawaiian burial grounds) so the views are definitely not up close ocean views. I had a deluxe ocean view which overlooked the golf course, nearby condos, a church and then the ocean and Molokai. It was a beautiful view, but if you're not aware how far back you are it could be disappointing. As for the breakfast buffet, it's great if it's part of your package, but at $25 per personyou may be disappointed. There was definitely more food at the buffet five years ago. The weather was off/on windy and rainy the whold time we stayed, that's just how this side of the island is. The only negatives are the $15 a day resort fee (crazy just add it in to the cost of the rooms) and how far away the guest parking spots are-all the up close spots are for valet. In a previous review someone mentioned not being able to use their computer at the resort. They now have a high speed wireless setup available (however my husband who sets up networks for a living could not get this to work and we heard others say the same thing). They do have a wireless set up in the business center that you can sign up for for $10 a day.
You do have to be with 200 feet of the business center to use it, but they have several table in the hallway to use. We found that it worked out to check our email and get coffee in the morning. This hotel is definitley special. There is so much space and it feels very relaxed and private. I really enjoyed my stay here.
