"Very nice"

We stayed during late December and found the hotel to be great. The only problem we had was with the inefficient beach and pool chair reservation "system" the management had set up. After another guest evicted us from our chairs, a supervisor's presence was requested - who never appeared. Upon returning home, the hotel manager was very apologetic, told us that a meeting was held with the general staff and the staff members in question were spoken with, and his recompense to us for our trouble was quite generous; far more than I expected. If I was back in Waikiki, I would definetly stay here again. Would definetly recommend this resort.Based upon my observations, I would recommend staying the Royal wing, not the Tower wing (the Tower wing looked more like regular hotel rooms; the Royal wing was the wing we were in).

"Treated "Royally" at The Royal"

Just returned from a 10 day trip to Hawaii. Spent our first four days in Waikiki at The Royal Hawaiian. We were upgraded at no extra cost to a 12th floor ocean front room in the tower with a marvelous lanai. Lei greeting.....my daughter at first chose a "candy lei" and then when she saw how lovely the flower lei ws she wanted to trade............the desk clerk simply gave her the flower lei in addition. This was an example of the superb service we received the entire stay. Though we didn't eat at the hotel a lot, the meals we did have, mostly breakfasts were very good and the room service was quite prompt. Everyone from maids to valet to front desk people were extremely polite and eager to please. When we ate Sunday breakfast, my daughter's meal was free, another nice surprise. The pool is not large but pleasant and right off the beach which we could access by stepping out of the elevator, down a couple of steps and there you are. Finding lounge chairs on the beach did not seem to be a problem and we never had to "reserve" one. There were a lot of Japenese tourists there, so I felt almost like I was in Japan, but having visited there before I did not mind. Mostly people were very polite. There is a wonderful ambience to this place which does hearken back to a bygone era of luxury. The garden is not large but still very lovely. The parking valets were very attentive and prompt, also helpful with directions when needed. There is a daily parking fee which most hotels charge......but the convenience of valet parking made it worthwhile.
We walked over the the next door Sheraton Waikiki for Sunday breakfast and it was very noisy and "busy" in the huge lobby.........we turned around and came back to the Royal where we appreciated the more quiet atmosphere and enjoyed a very lovely breakfast with a marvelous view of Diamond Head and the beach just outside. The only "downside" was that toward the end of our stay, renovation on the tower unit forced the closing of one of the elevators which was slightly inconvenient and lengthened the wait to go up and down. This should be done soon however and the newly rennovated rooms are very nice......ours being one of them. It was my daugher's first trip to Hawaii and will always be a memorable time for us both. It was enhanced in large part by the wonderful staff of this grand old hotel. Others may be looking for something else, but this is exactly what we had hoped for and more. We would come back here again!
