"Great stretch of beach!"

We just came back from our SIXTH stay at the Royal Lahaina! We have tried other condos down the beach a stretch, but none could compare to the 'feel' of the Royal Lahaina. They a devoted staff, many of which have been with them for decades. The oceanfront rooms are just feet from the beautiful beach. We were treated to a Monk Seal visit, along with many Whale sightings! It is lovely to fall asleep to the songs of Eddie and Pokie with the surf in the background. You can take a free trolley to Whaler's Village for shopping and dining.. or it is a short walk. The bus to Lahaina is only $1 and comes hourly, as does the trolley. This was the most convenient resort with the best value, we found.

"More plusses than minuses"

Just returned from our 2nd stay at the RLR. If you're looking for a glitzy American hotel with lots of stainless steel and neon (and high prices), this is not for you. And if you expect to stay on the on-site motel-style Hale House for $100/night and get resort-style accommodations, this is not for you. This is an older (well-maintained) Hawaiian-style resort. The staff is friendly; some of the restaurant service is slow, but some is quite good. We had a RLR package, which included an ocean-view room, an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast (quite good actually), and a compact car for about $240/night. The location of this resort is great. It is on the north side of Kaanapali Beach, uncrowded, even in February. You can watch whales swimming in the channel between Maui and Molokai from your deck, while you're having breakfast, or from the beach. You're close to many restaurants and shops in Lahaina and the south part of Kaanapali Beach.

"It had problems, but overall I would recommend it."

I booked a trip to the Royal Lahaina Resort for my fiance and me for Valentines Day as a surprise. I had never been to Maui before, so I used this website to judge the resort. After reading some of the reviews, I must admit, I was scared that I made the wrong chose. Happily, everything on the trip was great. I can see what some of the reviewers were saying with the resort being old; my ceiling fan was noisy, the toilet seat was loose, and the water pressure was week. I don't think anyone will tell you that this is a 5 star resort. Those were easy things to look pass, especially since the price was so reasonable. I also found everyone to be very friendly and the beach was outstanding. I suggest that you take a stroll to Black Rock (south end of the beach) for great snorkeling. The location of the resort was good also; you must try a restaurant a few blocks away (31 & Front St) called Canoe. Overall I would recommend this resort for anyone that is just looking for a nice place to stay in Maui.
