Overall, we loved our stay at this resort. Rooms were spacious and clean and we had a beautiful view, good value for the price. I do agree with the other comments regarding the tram (it did break down a lot) and the LONG walk to where your car was parked. However, it did not detract from our stay at all. The grounds were gorgeous, so the walk to the lobby was at least enjoyable, otherwise we took the boats to our hotel. We would stay here again.
My wife and I stayed at the resort using HHonors points Nov19-27, 2003. After reading so many negative reviews of the resort, we prepared ourselves for the worst. Needless to say we were more than happy with our vacation. The staff was courteous, and upon check-in, we were upgraded to a suite in the Ocean Towers which was awesome. Also, since we were in a suite, we did not get hit with the incidental charges for using the safe or refrigerator. We were not granted late check-out, but instead were given access to a changing room in the Palace towers for 1 hr. This allowed us to stay at the resort until 5 pm the day of checkout. The resort is gorgeous. It is quite large, but was not crowded at all. Getting around didn't seem like too much of a hassle to us either. Granted, you probably could walk to the main lobby quicker than the tram moves, but who's in such a hurry?? We both signed up for Dolphin Quest. This was catered more towards kids. I would recommend spending the money at Discovery Cove in Orlando if you want a true dolphin experience. Only one minor complaint: the tvs in the room were too small, but we didn't spend much time watching tv. Overall, we had a great time at the Waikoloa Village. I do not understand why people had so many negative reviews to write. I enjoyed the vacation enough that I sent my sister and her husband there using HHonors points in Feb 04. Remind yourself that you are on vacation and just relax!
We stayed at the HW over our honeymoon in Sept 2003. We stayed free after I cashed in 5 years of Hilton Honor Points. The hotel is beautiful, the staff is friendly, the rooms are average, but who wants to hang out in your room the whole time. The grounds are gorgeous, and well maintained. We liked walking the paths at sunset with the tiki torches blazing...very romantic. The food on the resort is expensive, and we went almost every night to Kona town...which makes the location of HW unfortunate. Activites you want to do...Luaus, Snorkel Tours, Cruises, all originate near Kona, so you do a lot of driving (HW is about 30 min drive away) You do have to take trams or boats to get around the resort, but who's in a hurry on vacation? As for the lagoon, it's ok to snorkel in, but go to Snorle Bob's in Kona and head to the Place of Refuge...much better. There are not a lot of sandy beaches on the big island, so if you want a beach hotel, try another island. Also if you are a Hilton Honor's member, you get free breakfast at the hospitality suite. I guess everthing is better when it's free. Check availability and book Hilton Waikoloa Village |
