"wonderful resort"

My husband and I just returned from a 6 night stay at the Westin Maui, after spending 5 nights in Honolulu. Honolulu was great (Pearl Harbour, Iolani Palace, Diamond Head) but if we ( I should say "when we" ) return to Hawaii, it will be to Maui as it is much less busy and more relaxed. The Westin was great. We were upgraded to a "partial ocean view" room which was fantastic. The view was beautiful, more ocean than I would expect from "partial", and it was great to have been upgraded. It was expensive, but we feel it was completely worth it. The help from the concierge was always great. We snorkeled many times down the beach at Black Rock (where the Sheraton Maui is-that is probably a great place to stay as well). You can stay at any Sheraton or Westin in the area and use the facilities of them all. That was really handy for when we snorkeled by the Sheraton.

"Great resort"

We just returned from Maui (Feb 13 - Feb 20). Stayed at Westin. It's a great resort with a friendly atmosphere. Pros: Great landscape. Lobby area is a cool place to hang around. Several swimming pools. Easy access to the beach. Nicely appointed room. Good in-resort restaraunts. Good view of the beach (watch for the so called ocean view on the side of the whalers village. You'll have to upgrade to Deluxe ocean view to get the pool/ocean view. Didn't bother to upgrade as we were spending most of the time outside.) Friendly staff with good service. Great for families. Can use the other facilities in the hotels belonging to the starwood resorts group of hotels. (eg. snorkeling near sheraton) Introduction to scuba diving (didn't take those lessons but a nice feature if interested). Kids camp. cons: Narrow and wet beach. In resort services are expensive. (food/laundry). Have to request refrigerator, which would occupy more space. No microwave. If booking with travelocity etc. certain things may not be guaranteed, but it is cheaper. (eg. double beds or king size beds etc.) Overall we had a very good time and this was one of our best vacation.

"great vacation in kihei!"

We just got back from an absolutely great vacation in Kihei & Maui. For the first week we rented a private condo at Kihei Surfside in Kihei. We were very pleased. The condo we rented just happened to be recently remodeled, and it was great. It was a one bedroom condo on the 4th fl. overlooking the ocean. It was not huge, only about 500 sq. ft. but plently big enough for 2 people. The kitchen was very modern and had all the conveniences if you wanted to save money and cook. Although it was not air conditioned, the ceiling fan and the breeze was wonderful. The grounds are kept up quite beautifully. The pool was not as large as a hotel, but was plenty big enough. We enjoyed sitting out and watching the whales and the sunsets. If peace and quite is what you are looking for this is definitely the place to be. We went on several snorkeling trips and liked them all, but we were most impressed with the Blue Water Rafting trip that left from a pier right next door to our condo. The second week we stayed at the Westin in Maui. We also were happy with our accommodation, however, I must say for the money you pay to stay there (almost half the cost to stay at Kihei Surfside than the Westin) the bathrooms could be better. There was no place to put anything. The Westin is very crowded and very very expensive compared to Kihei. It was like to separate vacations, but all in all we had a great time, and Hawaii is definitely paradise.
