Oahu Hawaii top attractionsWaikiki beachWaikiki (which translates as "spurting water") was, in its earliest incarnation, fertile farm land and the domain of island royalty. As a result of Honolulu's rampant development, it has since evolved into Hawaii's most frequented beach destination and one of the country's most populous areas. Pearl Harbor and Arizona Memorial Museum![]() Pearl Harbor was originally known for its stocks of pearl oysters, which were eventually wiped out by mudslides from surrounding hills denuded by overgrazing. But on the 7th of December, 1941, this sheltered harbor on Oahu Hawaii became the catalyst for the USA's involvement in World War II. The memorial was erected over the sunken wreck of USS Arizona in 1962 to commemorate the devastating events of the Pearl Harbor day. It is the most visited attraction in Hawaii with an estimated 3,000 visitors each day. Other attractions around Pearl Harbour include the Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park and the berthed 887-foot Battleship Missouri on which the Japanese signed documents to end the war. Location: The Arizona Memorial visitors centre is off Hwy 99 (Kamehameha Hwy) on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base, west of Honolulu via H-1. Shuttle buses run from all the major Waikiki hotels. Hawaii's Plantation Village![]() Hawaii's Plantation Village, located in the former sugar-processing town of Waipahu, is a re-creation of plantation life in the early 20th century, when sugar cane was the main Hawaiian export product and Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Puerto Rican and Filipino people came to Hawaii to work on the plantations. The village comprises several dozen homes and other buildings furnished with period pieces and workers' tools of the trade. Location: Waipahu, to the west of Pearl Harbor. Sea Life ParkHawaii Sea Life Park is located just 15 miles from Waikiki on Oahu's beautiful and scenic Makapuu Point.
