Hawaii > Beaches Maui Hawaii BeachesMaui boasts 42 miles of beaches, more than any of the other Hawaiian islands. As a result, there is no shortage of places for getting suntan, swimming, snorkeling or surfing. Hookipa Beach![]() Hookipa beach is the most famous of Maui beaches. Located on the windward side of Maui, the beach gets plenty of high surf that is ideal for surfing and windsurfing. During the winter, the waves can reach thrity-feet from the bottom of the trough to the crest. Too dangerous for beginners, this is the best place to watch the professionals. Makena BeachThis is one of the best beaches of Maui. It's one of the farthest points along South Maui, but it's worth the drive. Over a mile long, and a hundred yards wide, it is possible to have hundreds of people sharing the beach, and still have nobody sitting near you! The waves are big enough for body surfing, without getting too dangerous. Wailea BeachesWailea includes all of the beaches in front of the main resorts on South Maui, from the Aston to the Kea Lani. They are all white sand beaches with lava flows creating natural reefs teeming with marine life. The waves are usually not very large, so Wailea beaches of Maui are great for snorkeling and diving. Waianapanapa![]() This is one of the more famous black sand beaches of Maui. Waianapanapa is also a state park. Along with the beach, there are also caverns and trails throughout the surrounding wilderness. Waianapanapa Park offers showers, bathrooms, a picnic area, and camping facilities. Kamaole Beach ParkKamaole is more park than a beach. The area includes three beaches: Kamaole I, II, III. Kamaole III because it has the largest beach area as well as the most amenities, including bathrooms, showers, and picnic area. The majestic Maui mountains looming in the background add to the beauty of this beach. The water is relatively calm and is good for swimming. more Hawaii beaches>> |
