Hawaii Annual Events

Hawaii has numerous public holidays and a mass of annual festivals and events. Dates do change slightly from year to year. The major Hawaii events are listed below.

February

Makaha World Surfing Championship, Oahu

Whale Day celebration - all-day family celebration of Maui's humpback whales, is held at Kalama Park (by the big whale statue) on South Kihei Road, in Kihei, Maui. The celebration features live Hawaiian entertainment and dance all day.

March

26th - Prince Kuhio Day - a state holiday honoring Hawaii's first delegate to the U.S. Congress. State-wide.

April

O'Neill Windsurfing, Ho'okipa, Maui

Merrie Monach Festival, Hilo, Big Island. A week-long festival of cultural events including Hawaii's most prestigious hula competition at Edith Kanaka`ole Stadium.

May

1st - Lei Day - state-wide

June

11th - Kamehameha Day - state-wide

July

4th - Parker Ranch rodeo, Waimea, Big Island

August

International Billfish Tournament, Kailua, Big Island

August 20 (Friday) - Statehood Day (celebrating Hawai'i's admission as the 50th U.S. state on August 21, 1959)

Queen Lili'uokalani Canoe Races, Kailua, Big Island

A taste of Lahaina food festival, Lahaina, Maui

Aloha Festivals - consecutive week long festivals of the music, dance and history that preserve Hawaii's unique traditions (from the end of September through to October on each island).
