Maui Hawaii windsurfing spots

Hookipa beach on Maui island is the windsurfing mecca of the world. Jagged lava rock, exposed reefs, a gnarly shorebreak and powerful rip currents make this spot difficult for beginners, but expert sailors do like Hookipa.

Spreckelsville is a paradise for the intermediate and advanced windsurfers. The most consistent winds and best breaks are upwind of the main beach. In the summertime, the winds increase and the water flattens. Beware of dark patches of reef at low tide.

Kahana is the best for learners. Winds crank to a steady 25 knots in the summer months and water stays relatively flat.

Oahu Hawaii windsurfing spots

Diamond Head is the most famous windsurfing spot on Oahu. It usually catches the biggest swell on the Southshore. Crowded in summer, lots of surfers sometimes, usually gusty winds.

Kahala (Waialae beach park) is less crowded and offers good slalomsailing. Tricky reef at low tide, side- to sideonshore porttack.

Kailua - mostly slalomsailing, sideonshore starboardtack, the most beautiful bay.
